MYOPIA CONTROL LENSES

Growing children shows a tendency for worsening of short-sightedness, called myopia, or over time. Myopia has become a major problem especially in urban areas in Asia, as higher myopic power increases the risk of eye problems exponentially, such as retinal damage or even blindness. Myopia management is the means to control the progression of myopia..

Traditional single vision lenses does not halt the progression. New special myopia control lenses are designed to combat this pandemic. These include the “Peripheral Plus” design by Zeiss as Myovision and a “Defocus Incorporated Multisegment Spectacle (DIMS)” lens design marketed by Hoya as Miyosmart. They provide a well controlled progression of myopia from the age of 6-13 years old.
