THERE’S MORE TO
JUST A SIMPLE EYE TEST
An eye health screening is an overall check of your eye, inside and out. There are a number of conditions that may occur within your eye that may not affect your vision abruptly, but rather subtly.
These screenings are able to detect signs of health problems such as diabeteic retinopathy, macular degeneration, cataract or hypertension. Picking the eye disease up early could help increase the chances of preventable vision loss. The eye health screening are performed without an eye dilation so you can resume your daily activities after.
One of the most common eye diseases an elderly can get is cataracts. A cataract is the clouding of your natural lens that causes blurry vision. Using a slit lamp or an ophthalmoscope, the optometrist can determine whether you have cataracts and the severity of the cataracts. The optometrist will then refer you to see an eye doctor for a procedure to remove the cataract and restore clear vision to you.
The OCT (Optical coherence tomography) and DRS Retinal Imaging System takes a non-invasive photo of the retina which is back part of the eye in a matter of seconds.
This photo enables us to spot eye diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and many more and give a timely referral to the eye specialist for treatment.

Tonometry is used to measure the internal eye pressure (IOP) of a patient for glaucoma detection. When internal eye pressure is too high, it affects the nerve near the exit of the eye causing a loss of vision (visual field). An air puff tonometer is a non-contact equipment that measures eye pressure through a release of air at your cornea.
As we age, our tears production reduces and our quality of tears may deteriorate leading to dry eyes. Dry eyes can affect the quality of our vision.
Dry eyes screening checks the amount of tears, the quality of your tears, how long they can stay on the surface of the eyes as well as the condition of the meibomian glands.
We can then help you reduce the effects of dry eyes and improve the quality of vision.

A slit lamp examination is used to observe the structure of the eye under a high magnification. It’s like a microscope – just bigger and upright. Mainly for the front portion of your eyes, it includes your eyelashes, eyelids, conjunctiva, iris, pupil, cornea and lens. While this may sound simple, a wide range of conditions can be detected in a slit lamp examination – including cataracts, corneal ulcers, conjunctivitis, abrasions, diabetic retinopathy and others.
Corneal topography produces a visual description of the power, shape and curvature of your cornea. Like the earth, the eye has irregular hills and valleys on the surface and can help detect irregular conditions invisible to conventional testing. They are used not only for contact lens fitting but also in lasik surgery and detection of eye diseases such as keratoconus.
