The first lenses made for spectacles were from mineral-based material. Mineral lenses are used for microscopes and camera lenses as it is considered the highest optical clarity and provides the crispiest visual experience. Although plastic lenses now are favoured due to it’s lightweight and impact resistance, some still like mineral lenses because of its superior scratch and chemical resistance.
