8 Tips in Taking Care of Spectacles

8 TIPS IN TAKING CARE OF SPECTACLES

  • It’s always better to rinse the lenses with water to remove abrasive particles that could scratch the lens surface before wiping it with a lens cleaning cloth. Never use tissue which is wood based to wipe the lenses.
  • If the lenses and spectacles are oily or dirty, clean them with lens cleaner spray/dish washing liquid rather than hand soap/body wash (with moisturizing agent) because the latter one may leave a layer of film on the lens surface and smear the lenses.
  • Put on and take off the spectacles by holding both the temples. Handling it with one hand may loosen the hinge or the frame may misaligned. Gripping the rim of the lenses with thumb and fingers to wipe the lenses is  very important as well.
  • As soon as you take off your spectacles, store it in the case to keep it away from dust and also to prevent something from dropping on it that may crush the spectacles.
  • Always place the spectacles with lenses facing upwards to avoid coming contact with any other surfaces that can damage them.
  • Never expose the spectacles to high temperature such as on car dashboard, in sauna room, oven, hot shower etc., as intense heat could warp the frames, loosen the lenses or damage the lens coating.
  • Be careful when applying hair spray, cosmetics, perfumes and chemical substances, they may damage the spectacles. If the spectacles comes in contact with any of these, clean them immediately with warm water and then wipe it dry.
  • Parts of the spectacles and the lenses mounted in it may deform or deteriorate with use. Deformed spectacles could then place undue pressure on your nose and behind the ears. Always consult your optometrist at least once a year to obtain the necessary adjustment or replacement.
